Choose one. Capacity constrained — the lab has more demand than instrument time, so recovered hours become additional runs, valued at contribution margin. Downtime / cost avoidance — the lab has spare capacity, so recovered hours are not extra output; the value is technician time no longer spent waiting. Selecting both would count the same hours twice.

Instrument-hours recovered across the fleet each year — sample hold time per instrument per week × instruments × 52. Workflow downtime is deliberately excluded: those hours are already valued in Labor Reclaimed, and counting them here as well would double-count them.

Average share of an instrument's capacity that is genuinely unavailable during a typical outage or sample hold. At 100% a held instrument is fully out of service, so every recovered hour is a full instrument-hour. At 40% the instrument keeps working through most of the hold, and only 40% of those hours are real recovered capacity. Applies to both framings — it changes how many hours are real, not what an hour is worth.

Margin contributed by one additional run — not its full price. A run you could not perform costs you the margin, not the gross revenue. Used only in capacity-constrained mode.

Cost avoided per recovered instrument-hour. Auto-calculated as one technician's loaded hourly rate divided by the instruments they cover — the share of their time that instrument consumes. Deliberately excludes lost output: with spare capacity the work is caught up, not lost. Used only in downtime / cost-avoidance mode.
